Notebook LM is an advanced AI-powered tool developed by Google, combining the functionalities of a digital notebook with a sophisticated language model (LM). It is designed for efficient organization, in-depth analysis, and a deeper understanding of information related to a specific topic of interest.

How does it work?

Notebook LM analyzes and integrates user-uploaded content into digital “notebooks” created around specific topics. It can process large amounts of data from up to 50 sources in various formats , including text files, documents, articles, YouTube videos, and internet search results. It generates summaries, study guides, podcasts, notes, and tables.

The system allows users to ask complex questions based on the uploaded content, providing deep insights and detailed answers. It supports project work and research and can be used to explore a topic for a session , create content for slides (based on the selected sources), generate tables, and more.

Benefits for Use in Class

Students must carefully select sources before uploading them to Notebook LM. To ensure reliability, this can be combined with Perplexity (see my previous post). This tool can be used for seminar papers in Higher Ed, project-based learning, or in preparation for presentations by students.
