Models of Online Intercultural International Dialogue

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

Any models or examples of collaborative online international collaboration (COIL) I can follow?”🌎🤝❓

👥 In the trying times humanhood is going through these days, the importance of fostering #interculturaldialogue has become more evident than ever. The question above is often asked by educators first considering the idea of embedding meaningful virtual exchanges in their courses.

👉For inspiration, see the image below with 6 models which emerged from research I did as consultant for the Internationalization Department at Kibbutzim College to craft a techno pedagogical vision statement for international courses, shared with the Council of Higher Ed, and a handbook for practitioners.

The models (identified through the analysis of interviews to lecturers, some of whom are pioneers in the field) are arranged in an increasing level of intensity for the interaction.

Logically, the type of collaboration classes engage in has to be in accordance with the goals of the course and serve learning purposes. Partnering teachers need to discuss their needs while exploring possible paths that would benefit both.

👉For more info on the models, see the table below.

🔍 Which model from the ones above do you think would be the most suitable one for your needs?
